A Berry Merry Christmas

Oct 27, 2021

It’s the season of cosy blankets, decadent hot chocolates and Christmas movies. As we nestle down for the Christmas period, we often find ourselves looking for those winter warmer meals and festive snacks.

Our favourite tasty purple berries make for some of the most delicious and unexpected Christmas pairings! Here are some of our favourites:

Drinks

When it comes to the festive season, a bottle of White Heron’s British Cassis is a staple for celebrations. Add this delicious liquor to a flute and top with your favourite Champagne for a classic Kir Royal, or shake up the festive fun by including in your favourite cocktails and enjoy a seasonal Bramble or a fruity Mojito. For more splendid sip ideas, head over to the White Heron cocktail page.

Fish

A great unexpected pairing, blackcurrants add a delicious earthiness to a fish dish, particularly strong oily fish such as tuna or trout. As the darker evenings roll in, this dish is the perfect winter warmer.

Dressings

Mix up your winter lunches. Pair with a warm winter roasted vegetable salad; blackcurrant dressing adds a touch of freshness and tartness.

Cheese

A sweet blackcurrant jelly or chutney slathered over a cracker with an extra mature cheddar cheese makes for the most delicious winter snack! Whether you have made a pit stop on your brisk autumn walk or bundled up at home sheltering from the weather, this is a pairing that can be enjoyed anywhere.

Bread

What is it about cold weather that makes bread even more moresih? Blackcurrant bread has the perfect combination of sweet and savoury; it’s a delicious midday nibble. Add some winter slaw and a perfectly cooked steak, and you have yourself the ultimate winter sandwich.

Chocolate

These two make for a perfect dessert combination; our favourites are our warm, rich, dark chocolate tart and blackcurrant brownie. So light the fire and get cosy for the evening with this indulgent pud.
