B is for… Brain Boost. Research suggests that the consumption of blackcurrant juice may play an essential role in improving cognitive performance and slowing the cognitive decline associated with natural ageing and disorders, including dementia. 

L is for… Lactic Acid. Blackcurrants can help reduce lactic acid build-up in the blood, which can hurt muscles after exercising. 

A is for… Antioxidants. The rich antioxidant content of blackcurrants provides anti-cancer properties.

C is for… Cardiovascular Health. A high intake of fruit and vegetables that are rich in flavonoids can be beneficial to the cardiovascular system in several ways. And that’s right; those little purple berries are full of them! Laboratory tests have found that flavonoids reduce the rate at which bad cholesterol is formed.

K is for… Kent. These beautiful berries are predominantly grown in Kent, East Anglia and the West Midlands. Although, there are fields all across the UK, including a breeding program in Dundee.

C is for… Vitamin C. We’ve all heard that oranges are the richest in vitamin C before… but actually, blackcurrants contain more vitamin C than any other natural food source! Weight for weight, these berries actually contain 4x the amount of vitamin C than an orange! 

U is for… Under Eyes. According to a recent study, dark circles under tired eyes can be reduced through the consumption of blackcurrants.

R is for… Recipes. These little purple berries can be used in multiple ways, making for some of the most delicious recipes. From zingy smoothies to fragrant focaccia, we’ve got a whole stash of recipes here on the website for you to try.

R is for…Radicals. Antioxidants in blackcurrants are good for you because they help fight against free radicals entering the body. The body has evolved its own defence systems to inactivate free radicals; antioxidants in fruit like blackcurrants are absorbed by the body and act in the same way as the antioxidants that we produce ourselves: stopping free radicals in their tracks.

A is for… Anthocyanins. Blackcurrants are packed with them! And here’s a little tip for you – the darker the blackcurrant, the more anthocyanins it contains and the better it is for you!

N is for… Night Vision! The GLA and linoleic acid in blackcurrants, and because of their rich vitamin C value, help to improve eye functions, including the eyes’ ability to adapt to the dark!

T is for… Tart. Blackcurrants can also be enjoyed raw; many forget this fact. When in their raw state, these purple berries are tart to taste. 

S is for… Strengthening! Blackcurrants provide a high amount of calcium that strengthens bones and teeth! The berries are effective to prevent osteoporosis.
