BLACKCURRANT DAY

Jul 27, 2021

We might have mentioned that we’re a little bonkers about berries, and so it should undoubtedly come as no surprise that this year we were delighted to be celebrating the first-ever, #BlackcurrantDay! We celebrated the momentous day earlier this month on 15th July, and this date will mark the occasion annually.

We all agree (and we hope you do too) that blackcurrants deserve their very own day, and so Blackcurrant Day is exactly that, aiming to raise awareness of our favourite little purple powerhouses and highlight the numerous health benefits they have to offer.  From anti-ageing and improved brain function to gut health and digestion, there are so many ways for you to enjoy these beautiful berries and supercharge your diet. We have a whole host of delicious recipes here on our website for you to try at home.

The Blackcurrant Foundation consists of 35 growers in the UK championing the bush to bottle message. In fact, 90% of our crop is used to produce the nation’s favourite blackcurrant cordial…Ribena!

We had spent the last few weeks building up to this all-new and important day, uniting with blackcurrant growers not only nationwide, but worldwide too, all who joined in the celebrations of this small and mighty superfruit.

To mark the day itself, we headed out to Herefordshire to celebrate #BlackcurrantDay in the fields with grower, Rosie Begg, and Chairperson of the Blackcurrant Foundation and grower, Jo Hilditch. Jo and Rosie took us on a tour of the blackcurrant fields, where they shared top tips on growing blackcurrants – including how to know when they’re ready to be picked.

Head over to our Instagram’s #BlackcurrantDay highlight to catch up on the action, and whilst you’re there, feel free to give us a follow so you can stay tuned for more ‘berry’ exciting news throughout the year and be the first to hear about plans for #BlackcurrantDay 2022!
